Significance of your Rising Sign
What’s in a rising sign?
The term rising comes from the sign that’s rising on the horizon at the time you were born, so to find out yours, you need to know as close to the exact time as possible. Is the rising “the mask” you wear to others? Not so much. It is what others perceive of you when they first meet you. First impression. But the term mask implies inauthenticity and the best thing you can do to grow is move in the direction of your rising sign.
Owning your rising sign is soo authentic. It’s one of the truest ways you can live, be, and express yourself. This is why it’s also called the ascendant. When we’re on a spiritual journey, the rising shows us our path to higher spiritual ascension. We don’t usually consciously embody these traits earlier in life. The Moon comes naturally, and most children will first exhibit traits of their Moon sign before their Sun or anything else in their charts.
As a Sagittarius rising, I was always told I was unwaveringly positive and could see things from a somewhat enlightened wide-angle view for a 7th grader. My spiritual awakening fell on me like a ton of bricks at age 15. My mind shifted from my Gemini dominance to its counter, more philosophical sister, Sagittarius.
What did that look like? Well, I couldn’t wait to see the world and never stay in one spot long enough for it to get stale. But I certainly didn’t grow up traveling or learning about alternative healing and spirituality.
One promise I keep to myself is to grow more into my rising sign as I age.
